March Maddness

March Madness kicks off tonight as the District games start for all Michigan High School Basketball Teams. The Mid-Michigan Prep News makes its 1st Annual March Madness picks for Class A, B, C & D.

Class A:

Final Four Teams: Saginaw High, Holt, Orchard Lake St. Mary’s, Detroit Redford

midmiprep pick: Saginaw High

Coach Lou Dawkins has this team on a mission and only a state championship will satisfy this team. Saginaw High has the deepest bench in the state and each game a different player can step up. We look forward to seeing Josh Southern, Daniel West, Draymond Green, Mike Green and Bobby Lewis holding the Class A trophy on March 24.

Class B:

Final Four Teams: East Grand Rapids, Detroit Country Day, Flint Southwestern, Stevensville Lakeshore

midmiprep pick: East Grand Rapids

Coach Ed Crisman returns three 4th year varsity starters from last season’s team that lost by 4 in the title game. Watch out for speedy guard Kelvin Grady, big man Justin Anyijong and wing DeMarcus Grady as they bring home the school’s 1st Class B Championship in Basketball.

Class C:

Final Four Teams: Kalamazoo Christian, Saginaw Nouvel, Houghton, New Lothrop

midmiprep pick: Saginaw Nouvel

First we had the Panthers football team win a championship, then the Lady Panthers won the Class C Basketball Championship now Coach Warren Wood is trying to bring in the schools 3rd title this year. Tim Ryan is a big time scorer and is the leader of this great team.

Class D:

Final Four Teams: Jackson Christian, Cedarville, Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart, Sterling Heights Parkway Christian

midmiprep pick: Mt. Pleasant Sacred

The Irish are lead by Mr. Do-It-All Caleb Simon, Travis Gonna and Alex Wood. Look for coach Keisha Brown to make history when she returns last years Class D runner-ups to the title game.

The March To The Breslin Center Starts Today

The 2006-2007 Boys Basketball season kicks off tonight with many questions. Can Arthur Hill repeat as the Class A Champs? Or will Saginaw High knock them out of the tough Saginaw District? Class B will be tough with teams like Flint Northwestern, Frankenmuth, Flint Powers and Bridgeport, but can anyone in Class B stop Anthony “Noopy” Crater and his Flint Southwestern teammates? Can Saginaw Nouvel’s Boys Basketball team follow the lead of the Football team and Girls Basketball team and bring in another championship? Who will step up in Class D? Stay tune for a season filled with many great teams and athletes.
